Tree 8 m tall, with trunk 15 cm DBH. Trunk and branches with conical spines. Branches mostly horizontal. Calyx dark reddish. Corolla at anthesis is with "candy-stripe" coloration": the outer margin of the imbricate petals is reddish-pink, the center and inner margen cream-white. A couple of days after anthesis, the corolla turns uniformly salmon-pink and the petals are twised in a loose spiral. Anthers are also spiralled after anthesis. Tree 15 m tall, with trunk 20 cm diameter. Locally common on sandstone plateau. Branches with conical spines. Only one open flower seen on one tree. Petals pink or salmon-colored following anthesis. Petals twised. Calyx reddish, cupular.

Tree 15 m tall, with aculeate branches. Nearly leafless when flowering. Cupular calyx green. Flowers pale pink or "salmon"-colored at anthesis. Petals at first green in bud, then turning pink before anthesis.

Trree 6 m talll. Several individuals planted as living fencepost along road; also an older, larger tree nearby in corn field. Trunk and limbs with small conical spines. Generally leafless when flowering (leaves collected from tree with fruits). Flowers salmon-pink or pale flesh-colored at anthesis, later darkening to reddish tint.
