Tree to 25 m, with massive grey "bottle"-like trunk. Flowers prolific, held moreor less horizontal. Calyx yellow-greenoutside pink-red inside, splitting into2 or 3 more irregular pieces which coilspirally at anthesis, about 15 cm long.Petals pale orange, pink-red at baseinside. Staminal tube pale orange, red-pink inside. Filaments pale orange, antherpale orange becoming brown. Style red-purple, stigma red-purple becoming black-purple, clavate.
