Tree 4 m; leafless; with spines. Inflorescences erect; flowers at anthesis perpendicular to rachis. Calyx dark purple-brown, streaked with green, glabrous, fleshy, elliptic in X-section, with a blunt apical tooth on carinal side. Corolla B & K red 5/7.5 Many old fruits with persistent red seeds.

Tree 6 m tall; leafless, with spines. Corolla standard pale pink (B & K red 7/10 to 8/10). Calyx at anthesis dark purple-brown, somemtimes green at base, glabrous, fleshy, broadly elliptic in cross-section, with an apical tooth on carinal side. Pollinated by hummingbird Heliomaster constantii.

Hybridizing population of Erythrina chiapasana and E. goldmanii. Elev. 3300 ft. Small shrub 1.5 m tall; leafl- less. Corolla standard pale red or pink (B & K red 7/7.5). Calyx very dark purple-brown, almost black; fleshy, nearly round in cross-secton; obscurely ridged longitudinally, with a blunt apical tooth on carinal side.

Corolla standard B & K red 6/5, with silvery hairs at apes. Calyx purple-brown streaked with green, fleshy, broadly elliptic in cross-section with an apical tooth on carinal side. Fruit strongly constricted between seeds.
