Shrub to 2.5 m tall; sterile; leaves elliptical, dull green. Local guide says that later in the dry season the leaves will turn much shinier as in Croton bernieri.

Small tree to 5 m tall, leaves lepidote, subopposite. Staminate flowers appear to have bloomed first. Ovary golden-lepidote, with stylar column. Reddish latex in pith of stem. Plant aromatic.
